Catharsis is a name more than one band is using. One of them is a hardcore band commited to CrimethInc., ex-workers collective.
Catharis and a few bands like them (Zegota for example) are the life's blood of the next generation of hardcore: their music is anthemic and soulful, cutting edge, innovative enough to sound like no other band; their lyrics are political and passionate, filled with sincerity and youthful idealism.
In 2003 the band decided to break up. Some members of Catharsis have reformed in a band called Requiem, which first started touring in the US at the end of December 2003.
Catharsis was a group of musicians: We seek to express and inspire emotions with our music: to give voice to some of our feelings, and to produce feelings of similar intensity in others. But we do not want to be put on a pedestal as "artists," we do not want to present ourselves as being any different than you. We do not want to suggest that we have a creative power that you do not have, that you must come to us to buy creativity and emotion. We're not interested in turning our emotions into musical products you can purchase, for entertainment or anything else. Capitalism has made the musician a businessman who sells emotions and creativity to people who don't realize they have creativity of their own. We reject this role.
